A Labubu can be a small item with a large sentimental or collector value. That is exactly why “just wipe it down” is not always a safe plan. A plush-and-vinyl collectible may have soft fur, a smooth vinyl face, paint or printed details, glued joins, labels, metal hardware and stuffing. Those materials can react differently to moisture, heat, friction and cleaning products.
The least risky rule is simple: start with dry care, use as little moisture as possible, and stop before a small mark becomes a larger problem. Start by identifying what is actually on the item
Before touching the fur or face, look closely under good light. Is the issue ordinary surface dust, a dry smudge, a sticky spot, a stain, transfer from another material, an odour, mould, water exposure or a structural concern? Is the face smooth vinyl, or does it carry paint, printing, lashes, decals or a matte coating? Does the item have a fabric tag, keychain, metal clasp, stitched outfit or glued accessory nearby?
This quick assessment matters because the safest method for loose dust is not the safest response for oil, ink, colour transfer, stickiness or possible mould. If you are unsure what the mark is, take a photo before you apply water or a product. A photo of the full item, close-up of the affected area, tag or packaging, and any care information gives a professional more context.

Step 1: remove loose dust without wetting the item
For routine care, begin with a clean, dry, soft microfiber cloth or an ultra-soft brush used with almost no pressure. Work in the direction the fur naturally lies. Do not scrub in circles or repeatedly brush the same spot. If the face is a smooth vinyl surface, lightly wipe only; avoid catching an edge of paint, a printed detail or a glued part.
For plush fur, Douglas Toys recommends smoothing fur in the direction of the pile and notes that careful technique helps preserve the item’s appearance. [1] A dry-first approach makes sense for a collectible because it avoids introducing moisture before you know whether water, heat or cleaning products are safe for its materials.
Do not use compressed air, a high-suction vacuum nozzle, a lint roller, a stiff brush or a rough towel on a delicate collectible. These can pull fibres, flatten fur, loosen small parts or create friction on the face.
Step 2: only spot clean when the item and mark make it reasonable
If the item has a small amount of ordinary surface soil and you have checked that there is no obvious paint, printing, special finish or loose construction at the spot, use the smallest possible amount of moisture. Dampen—not soak—a clean white microfiber cloth with plain water. Test it in a hidden area first. Gently dab a tiny area of fur or lightly wipe a plain, smooth section of face, then stop and inspect for colour transfer, cloudiness, tackiness, lifting print or a change in texture.
If the test looks unchanged, work one small area at a time. Do not spray the item directly. Do not let water run into the fur, seams, face edge, joints, tag, stuffing or metal hardware. Use a separate dry cloth immediately to blot any excess moisture.
Douglas Toys advises avoiding saturation for light surface dirt on plush and says that cleaning residue can attract more dirt if it is not removed. [1] That is a helpful principle here: minimal moisture and minimal product are safer than a broad wet-cleaning attempt.
Step 3: protect the vinyl face from common mistakes
A vinyl face can be especially vulnerable if it has paint, print, a matte layer, gloss, adhesive, eyelashes or a coating you cannot identify. Do not use alcohol, acetone, nail-polish remover, bleach, peroxide, harsh household cleaners, fragrance sprays, abrasive pads, melamine “magic” erasers or an aggressive toothbrush. Do not use a solvent because it helped on another toy or a social-media video. A treatment that removes a mark may also alter sheen, colour, printed details or adhesive.
Do not rub hard to chase a stain. Friction can be as risky as the cleaning product. If a facial mark remains after a light, tested damp-cloth wipe—or if the mark is ink, dye transfer, oil, makeup, adhesive, paint damage or stickiness—stop. Take photos and ask for help before trying a stronger product.
Step 4: care for the fur without matting or singeing it
Fur is easily changed by heat, residue and rough handling. Douglas Toys warns that fabric softener can leave a sticky residue on plush fur and that dryer heat can singe fur, causing irreversible damage. [1] Do not machine dry a collectible plush-and-vinyl item. Do not use a hairdryer, radiator, direct sun, steamer or iron to hurry drying unless the manufacturer has explicitly approved that method for the exact item.
If a tiny spot has been dampened and you have seen no adverse reaction, let the item air dry in a clean, shaded, well-ventilated place. Keep the face upright or positioned so water cannot collect at an edge or seam. While the fur is only lightly damp, smooth it gently in its natural direction with clean fingers or a very soft, clean brush. Douglas Toys similarly advises smoothing fur while it is still wet so it does not dry in a rumpled state. [1]
Do not repeatedly wet and re-brush an area in an attempt to restore it. If fur is matted, stained, shedding or uneven after a spill or cleaning attempt, a trial-and-error approach can make the problem more permanent.
Step 5: know when not to clean it at home

Frequently asked questions
Can I put my Labubu in the washing machine?
Do not assume it is safe. A mixed-material collectible may have fur, vinyl, paint, glue, stuffing and hardware that react differently. Machine washing can introduce agitation and moisture where you cannot control it. Check original manufacturer instructions first; if they are absent or unclear, consult before trying it.
Can I use a baby wipe, alcohol wipe or sanitiser on the vinyl face?
Do not treat these as universally safe. Ingredients, fragrance, alcohol content and friction can affect an unknown paint, print, coating or adhesive. Start with dry care, and if a very light damp-cloth test is suitable, test an inconspicuous plain area first. Stop at any sign of change.
Can I dry it with a hairdryer?
No, not as a default. Heat can affect plush fur and may create risks around adhesives or finishes. Douglas Toys specifically warns against dryer heat for plush because it can singe fur and cause irreversible damage. [1]
What if the fur is sticky or matted?
Do not add more products immediately. Sticky fur may hold residue, while matted fur can be damaged by aggressive brushing. Photograph the area and tell us what has contacted the item before you attempt further cleaning.
What if the vinyl face has an ink mark or colour transfer?
